President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has urged parents to vaccinate their children against the global COVID-19 pandemic.

In his first official visit to Macuata on Friday, Ratu Wiliame reminded the Commissioner Northern, Uraia Rainima, and government officials that they played a vital role in boosting the vaccination rate on Vanua Levu.

“It’s important that we work together and support our health officials in getting more people vaccinated,” he said.

“We have suffered enough from this pandemic and it’s good to see people coming forward for vaccination.

“Everyone is looking forward to coming to the North so we need to secure our island and protect our people.

As head of state, Ratu Wiliame said he would do his best to keep Vanua Levu safe from COVID.

Taveuni currently leads the vaccination rate in the North with 96 per cent of people vaccinated with the first dose and 84 per cent fully vaccinated.

Macuata is at second with 82 per cent of fully vaccinated people.

Ratu Wiliame thanked all those who had received their vaccination.
