Call of duty

Once again The Fiji Times has proved that it reaches out to all parts of Fiji to cover news.
On Thursday, inspiring journalist Sikeli Qounadovu ran a story titled “Taking cover”.
The photo of a mother cuddling her baby as they took shelter at the Nasau Methodist Church on the island of Koro would have melted hearts as the villagers braced for strong winds and heavy rains, which battered them.
These villagers would remember the devastation left by STC Winston and any thought of heavy rain and strong winds would move the hardest of hearts.
Then our hardworking gentleman ran a story on Saturday titled “Call of duty” and covered the story about Emosi Torosi, the head teacher of Kade District School on Koro.
Mr Torosi has shown enormous leadership qualities and courage to carry on with his responsibility of teaching the wonderful children under his care despite teaching and staying in a tent.
Mr Torosi’s hard work has paid dividends as results have improved.
He taught the valuable readers that no matter the circumstances one goes through, he has to perform his duties to the best of his abilities.
I salute this dedicated and passionate head teacher and his staff members for the endless sacrifice in order to teach the children attending school.
I acknowledge the efforts of the relevant authorities for the rehabilitation works.
My best wishes to the staff members and students of Kade, Qalivakabau and Vunivasa district schools in their bid to attain excellence.
To The Fiji Times and Sikeli, vinaka vakalevu for such inspirational stories!
