The Fiji Times marketing co-ordinator Annie Robinson said support for the Vodafone Fiji 7s team has been overwhelming.
Her sentiments came after the success of the texting platform launched by the Fiji Times last week for the Wellington 7s where fans could send in their well wishes.
“The response from the public has been great. A lot of fans texted in to show their support for the team when they were in Wellington,” she said.
Robinson added that the same texting initiative would be made possible for round three of the HSBC World Rugby Seven’s Series in Sydney this weekend.
“I guess it helps because we will have a team there that’s on the ground to cover stories and take pictures. It ensures that other than sending in their well wishes fans are provided with timely news about the team,” she said.
She added that fans could send in their text messages starting from 6am tomorrow.
“The platform closes on Sunday and we will make every effort to have text messages published in the newspaper as an added motivation for the team,” Robinson said.
She said to be part of the hype, Vodafone prepay and Postpay users along with Inkk users can text in their well wishes to 1869 the year the first edition of The Fiji Times was published.
Owen Ratumaikoro, a teacher at Veiuto Primary School won the Wellington 7s texting promotion, earning himself an Alcatel smartphone from a 99c text message.
A Samsung Galaxy J5 valued at $659 is the prize for the winner of the texting promotion for the Sydney 7s.
