PACIFIC Island leaders have urged all parties, at all levels, to act now in the fight against climate change.
While addressing the Pacific Islands Forum meeting following an interactive high level political dialogue with visiting UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, PIFS chairperson and Nauruan president Baron Waqa said leaders have talked and debated about science for years, but now, no doubt Pacific countries were facing an unprecedented global catastrophe.
“Our actions must be swift and they must be ambitious,” Mr Waqa said.
“As one Blue Pacific, we are – and will continue – to take decisive action.”
President Waqa also called on Pacific leaders and the UN to use the opportunity of the UNSG’s Climate Action Summit to make the changes we need to reverse climate change.
