Fiji 7s robust forward Apenisa Cakaubalavu spends most of his time at home farming, which he now includes as part of his training program and a father’s duty to provide food for his family during this time of hardship.
The Naroi, Moala, Lau, man made his debut in Dubai 2017 and was injured in Cape Town before he rejoined the team in Hamilton 2018 when he replaced injured player Avete Daveta.
He has also been an impact individual for the team ever since in the forwards and backline positions.
Cakaubalavu says farming has been part of his training program and he will continue to maintain his fitness waiting for the recall.
“We’ve been told to have our own training and I’ve been doing that but I have also had the time to focus on farming because we don’t know how long this crisis will take, but if we have a food source, we don’t have anything to worry about,” he said.
“I’ve been farming with other boys in the area and this has also helped me with my fitness level. Since the gyms are closed, the best way is to use the farm as my own gym and I can feel that it really helps.”
Cakaubalavu lives in Olosara, Sigatoka, with his wife Alaitai and daughter Demelza.
