MEMBERS of Cabinet were in a urgent meeting over the 48 hours at Suvavou House in Suva, says Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He made the comment during the Fiji Ports Terminal Ltd bonus payout in Suva yesterday.

He said for the past two days, all Cabinet ministers were involved in a strategic meeting which excluded the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Defence Minister Inia Seruiratu, who are in Poland.

“The meeting was about to get the synergies involved, identify what we call the low hanging fruits in terms of what we can deliver not just as a Government, but in terms of economic output and medium to long term output and do the strategic thinking,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“Strategic thinking is very important because if we strategies 4, 5, 10, 15 and 20-year plans than the economic benefits will be enormous, but we need to set goals and work towards achieving them.”

Questions send to Mr Sayed-Khaiyum via email yesterday evening remained unanswered. Calls to his cell phone remained unanswered when this newspaper went to press.

Questions sent to him were :

It’s unusual for government ministers to hold a 48-hour meeting and sleep over in a public office.

Why was the meeting held at Suvavou House. Wasn’t any other venue considered to host this meeting?

Was there a need for the cabinet ministers to spend the two nights at Suvavou House? and

Why wasn’t the bailiff’s allowed to enter the venue and serve the copy of the petitions by SODELPA and NFP to members of the Cabinet?
