ZONE taxi operators will be allowed to become members of the Fiji Taxi Association and all its affiliated organisations and possibly vote in the 2020 annual general meeting, says FTA president Raben Bhan Singh.

He made the comment during the 55th Nadi Taxi Association annual general meeting at the Nadi Civic Centre yesterday.

Tensions flared during the meeting when some base taxi operators called into question a decision by the FTA and NTA executives to allow zone permit holders into the AGM.

Mr Singh clarified that while the AGM was for Nadi Taxi Association members, it was also in the best interest of the organisation to welcome every stakeholder.

He said zone permit holders could sit in the meeting but they would not participate in the election of office bearers.

However, he said after the AGM was completed, zone permit holders would be invited to become members of the Nadi Taxi Association.

“Once their applications go to the board, they meet all the criteria and they are approved, then they will be accepted as members,” he said.

More than 50 Nadi Taxi Association members and more than 70 zone permit holders were present at the forum.
