THE Hong Kong Sevens team who landed in the country earlier in the week look to begin a busy qualifying year for them here at the 2019 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament.

Coach Paul John says they have two major qualifications to achieve this year being the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series qualifier in Hong Kong in March and the Olympics qualifier in November.

“We have a solid 11 months ahead of us until the qualifiers in November,” John said.

He said the tournament would also be a boost for their side as they also look to book a spot on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series next season.

“We have qualified for the qualifiers again this year, which will be in Hong Kong, but again there are very impressive teams there as well like Germany and Ireland.”

Hong Kong is in pool B alongside Lokalevu, Sigatoka River Safari Henibua and Raka 7s and Marist 7s champion Tabadamu.

“It was a tough tournament last year and it is going to be again this year with so many tough teams.”
