BUSINESSES found selling single-use plastic bags will be hit with a fine of up to $750,000 beginning January 1, 2020.

This is clearly articulated in the draft Climate Change Bill that is before Parliament.

The draft document says the fine was designed to address plastic pollution.

Government had announced in the 2019-2020 budget that a plastic bag ban would be imposed on all single-use plastic bags, including those with and without handles from January 1, 2020.
