POPULAR restaurant franchise Burger King Fiji today handed over the latest and largest single collection of $13,000 to FENC Fiji at its flagship restaurant in Martintar, Nadi.

All the five Burger King outlets in Fiji carried donation boxes to support FENC Fiji raise funds for its various activities, which include support to students in the form of scholarships.

The scholarship covers basic school supplies such as school uniforms, shoes, bags, books and stationery for primary and secondary school children.

In a statement issued today, Burger King (Fiji) general manager Akash Narsey said they were proud to have been able to collect this money on behalf of FENC Fiji to assist children of improvised backgrounds with their educational needs.

“Education is a key element in escaping poverty, which is what initially drove us to partner with FENC Fiji back in 2016,” Mr Narsey said.

“We would like to thank the people of Fiji and all those who have contributed to our donation boxes in our Burger King restaurants for their generous support. This money can now be used by FENC Fiji to continue with their commendable work.”

While accepting the donation, FENC Fiji financial controller Priya Lata thanked the management and staff of Burger King for making a difference in the society by partnering in their fundraising efforts.

She said Burger King was the largest annual committed donor for 2019.

“The donation and continued support from Burger King will go a long way in assisting us to make education accessible to the poorest of the poor children of Fiji while enabling them to break the cycle of poverty and become resourceful citizens of Fiji,” Ms Lata said.

She said the previous donation of $8000 received in June this year was used to assist 75 children living at the Koroipita settlement in Lautoka.

Koroipita is an NGO committed in providing guidance and support for the advancement of poor families by way of a holistic and dynamic community development program.

“The money received today will be utilised to purchase school supplies for children who are listed with us for the 2020 school term.

“This year, FENC Fiji has assisted more than 3000 children across Fiji and has also implemented eight core programs to ensure children receive the assistance in a very timely and efficient manner so that there is no hindrance to their school work.”

FENC Fiji is committed to improving the situation of families for the poorest of the poor by investing in their education.
