The Burelailai Rebels rugby team was crowned the Nausori Super Five Rugby 10s tournament over the weekend at Ratu Cakobau Park.
The team beat Nakuita Warriors after sudden death when the teams were locked five-all at full time.
The Komai Nausori Trophy was awarded to Burelailai for scoring the most tries in the tournaments.
Tournament director Malakai Yamaivava said it was a proud day for the vanua to witness their sons and daughters play and to have a family affair enjoying a day watching rugby.
“This is where grassroots development begins,” he said.
“You will see different styles of rugby, different talents unleashed and most of all families cheering for their children on the rugby field.
“To have this competition means a lot, not only to the club, but to every individual player that played knowing that they are being supported.”
Yamaivava said this wouldn’t have happened without the support of the Vanua o Vunivivi, sponsors and their supporters.
He added that they would continue to host such tournaments in the future.
