THE 2018-2019 National Budget cannot satisfy everyone and this is because of the limited revenue, says Unity Fiji party leader Savenaca Narube.

He highlighted this as part of the party’s review of the national budget and said the best thing to do was to prioritise the use of our scarce revenue to achieve maximum benefits for the people.

Mr Narube said this budget made a change in the right direction to address the needs of the people in a more meaningful way.

“I found the most innovative allocation to help care for newborn babies including maternal and paternal leave.

However, I find it strange to park $500 for six years,” Mr Narube said.

He said Unity Fiji would introduce a better system to support children.

Mr Narube said the budget had not gone far enough to make a real difference to many of our fundamental challenges.

“My most serious concern is that this government continues to raise the people’s expectations for more handouts. This is extremely serious.

“Such a strategy to get political support deepens our poverty and weakens the human spirit of taking the helm of our destiny in life.”
