VIRGINIA Beach police in the United States are investigating the “suspicious” deaths of a Fijian couple yesterday.

US media said emergency services received a call in the morning at the Bound Brook Court home of Edith and Jerry Digitaki who had recently moved there from Hawaii.

Police officers responded to a report of a cardiac arrest but upon gaining entry into the house, they discovered Mrs Digitaki dead with injuries to her throat and Mr Digitaki fighting for his life with injuries to his throat as well.

Paramedics rushed him to the hospital but he later died because of the injuries sustained.

Neighbours said the couple were very friendly and no one had suspected anything had happened that morning.

One neighbour said he was concerned about the couple’s two young children.

US authorities said the deaths were an isolated incident “that is connected with the home” and they are not looking for any suspects.

Family and friends of the deceased told this newspaper they were still in shock because the couple were known to be loving and very friendly.

Mrs Digitaki was in Fiji recently to visit a close friend who was dying of cancer.
