VUSU Brumbies defended the Kalevu Shield once again in what could have been a different story if the Bemana Waratahs had managed to score a try in the last minute, only to be disallowed for a knock-on.
Vusu Brumbies laced with top reps such as Ifereimi Tovilevu, Amenoni Nasilasila, and Ulaiasi Lawavou was able to shrugged off a very strong challenge from the Waratahs.
Being locked with a tie 3 all at half time, a quick pep talk from Brumbies coach Etika Tovilevu boosted the boys to score the lone try on the 65th minute through Ifereimi Tovilevu.
Conversion was unsuccessful and scores remained as 8-3 until full time.
At the sound of the full time hooter, when the Brumbies camp were celebrating, the Waratahs were awarded a penalty and with a quick tap launched waves of attack only to be called back after a knock on under Brumbies goalposts.
A converted try to the Waratahs could have allowed the Waratahs a historical Kalevu Shield win. Vusu Brumbies now faces the Wai Stormers at 5pm on Tuesday July 9 at Lawaqa Park.
