Budget cuts

THE Solomon Islands Government is planning to slash the health budget by $US4.16 million ($F8.46m). The Ministry of Health’s permanent secretary, Tenneth Dalipanda, said such cut would put considerable pressure on service delivery.

New homes

Up to 4000 new homes will be built at a major new development on land at Unitec’s Mt Albert campus in Auckland, the Housing Minister announced. Housing Minister Phil Twyford formally launched the plan with the Prime Minister, who is the local MP yesterdayThe government has bought 29 hectres of land at Unitec’s Mt Albert campus for the development, which will also include townhouses and terraced housing.

Body found

A body was found in Canterbury, New Zealand, by people taking part in search and rescue training. Police Senior Sergeant Paul Reeves said the body was discovered about 4pm on the banks of the Ashley River. It’s the same area that was scoured during the search for Emma Beattie. The 20-year-old went missing in December.
