Reed’s first

AUGUSTA, Ga. – American Patrick Reed won the US Masters on Sunday to land his first major title.

Reed, who took a three-shot lead into the final round at Augusta National, carded a one-under-par 71 that left him one shot clear of Rickie Fowler (67) for his sixth PGA Tour victory.

Close call

MILAN (Reuters) – Napoli missed a penalty and gifted their opponents a goal before scoring twice late in the game to snatch a 2-1 win over lowly Chievo on Sunday and keep the Serie A title race alive.

Napoli’s title challenge appeared to be petering out after Dries Mertens saw his penalty saved early in the second half and Mariusz Stepinski put the Flying Donkeys ahead with 17 minutes left.

Crutchlow leads

Britain’s Cal Crutchlow won the Argentine Grand Prix for the LCR Honda team on Sunday to lead the MotoGP world championship after two races. Crutchlow, celebrating a third career MotoGP win and Honda’s 750th grand prix success, is the first Briton to lead the top category since the late Barry Sheene in 1979.

Substitute Javier Hernandez stole an equaliser to earn West Ham United an unlikely point in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The home side had dominated the London derby for 73 minutes, leading for almost half that time after Cesar Azpilicueta poked home in following a short corner.

Arsenal wins

Danny Welbeck’s second goal of the game gave Arsenal a 3-2 win on Sunday and cost Southampton a draw they would have deserved in their struggle against relegation from the Premier League.

Southampton’s defeat kept them in the bottom three, three points behind Crystal Palace but with a game in hand.
