New coach

NEW Zealand will have a new coach for their mid-year Test against Wayne Bennett’s England in Denver after David Kidwell decided against seeking re-appointment to the Kiwis job. Kidwell was in charge of the Kiwis at last year’s World Cup and while the NZRL announced after his contract expired in February that the post would be open to non-New Zealand coaches, he was invited to re-apply.

2-game ban

SOUTH Sydney star Sam Burgess has been rubbed out of the Rabbitohs’ next two marquee fixtures after being found guilty of elbowing Canterbury’s Josh Morris in the throat in a tense Good Friday clash. Burgess will miss tomorrow’s showdown with traditional rivals St George Illawarra at Kogarah Oval and next week’s local derby against the Roosters at Allianz Stadium.

Locked in

ADAM Elliott’s blue and white bloodlines have earned him a long-term crack at the Bulldogs’ No.13 jumper after he knocked back serious approaches from Parramatta and the Warriors last season. Elliott will lock Canterbury’s scrum in Canberra tonight after Aiden Tolman’s untimely ankle injury against the Rabbitohs on Good Friday.

New contract

COREY Thompson has capped off a memorable return to the Telstra Premiership with the Wests Tigers announcing his re-signing until the end of 2019. Thompson joined the joint venture club after two years in the English Super League and has made an immediate impact, helping guide the side to three wins in their opening four games of the season.

Duo suspended

MELBOURNE Storm centre Will Chambers has received a two-match ban while teammate Dale Finucane will serve a one-match suspension following the team’s loss to Cronulla on Good Friday. Chambers pleaded guilty to a grade two dangerous contact charge while Finucane entered a no contest to his grade one dangerous contact charge.
