Abortion ban

WASHINGTON – Mississippi moved a step closer to passing the United States’ most restrictive abortion law when a state Senate committee approved a bill banning most procedures after 15 weeks of gestation. The measure now heads to the full Senate after passage by the Public Health and Welfare Committee. Current state law bans abortion at 20 weeks after conception.

OUAGADOUGOU – Two senior allies of Burkina Faso’s deposed former President Blaise Compaore and scores of others appeared in court on Tuesday accused of organising a 2015 coup attempt against a transitional government. Protesters, angered by Compaore’s attempt to change the constitution to extend his 27-year rule in 2014.
