LONDON – West Ham United’s Portuguese defender Jose Fonte has joined Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang 13 months after signing from Southampton, the London club said yester. Fonte, 34, joined West Ham a year ago as former manager Slaven Bilic bolstered the team’s defence. He made 24 appearances for the Hammers.

LONDON – Raheem Sterling is struggling to be fit for Manchester City’s League Cup final against Arsenal on Sunday but Gabriel Jesus could return, manager Pep Guardiola said yesterday. “He had a muscular problem. I don’t know if he will be ready for Sunday,” Guardiola said of forward Sterling as he looked ahead to his first final as City manager.

BARCELONA – FIFA has ended its involvement in Brazil forward Neymar’s dispute with his former club Barcelona over an outstanding bonus payment. A spokesperson told Reuters as the dispute had been submitted to different bodies, understood to be the Spanish court system, FIFA was not in a position to mediate.
