WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump urged Turkey to curtail its northern Syria military operation and warned it not to bring US and Turkish forces into conflict on Wednesday but analysts said he has little leverage to halt its NATO ally’s offensive there.

Office stormed

ALALABAD – Gunmen stormed an office of the Save the Children aid agency in Afghanistan’s eastern city of Jalalabad on Wednesday and at least five people were killed and 25 wounded in a daylong battle with security forces before the attack was finally suppressed. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the assault.

Man detained

BEIRUT – Lebanon has detained a suspected militant wanted over the killing of two army officers and attacks on the military near the town of Arsal.

The detained man was Mohammed Ahmed Abdulghani al-Hujairi, an associate of a Syrian militant wanted for the 2015 bomb attack on a Beirut café.
