Pakistan to build reactors

ABU DHABI – Pakistan plans to build three to four big reactors as it targets nuclear power capacity of 8800 megawatts (MW) by 2030, the country’s atomic energy commission chairperson said. Pakistan has five small reactors in operation with combined capacity of just over 1300 MW.

Cyber attacks

TEL AVIV – The Israeli military faces thousands of cyber attacks a day and many are orchestrated by Iran whose hacking capabilities are improving, the Israeli Major General Nadav Padan, who is in charge of network security said. Israel and Iran, enemies in the open, have taken to the cyber world to engage in secretive battles.

Nuclear power plan

ABU DHABI – Saudi Arabia has sent a request for information (RFI) to international suppliers to build two nuclear power plants, a first step towards a formal tender. The kingdom is considering building 17.6 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear capacity by 2032, the equivalent of about 17 reactors, making it one of the biggest prospects in Japan.

Tunnel under strip

GAZA/JERUSALEM – Seven Palestinian militants were killed when Israel blew up what it said was a tunnel being dug underneath the Gaza Strip border. Hamas said Israel had made a “futile attempt to sabotage efforts to repair Palestinian unity”, a reference to the reconciliation agreement it reached with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
