THE Secretariat of the Pacific Community is closely monitoring dengue outbreaks around the Pacific. Palau is one of the countries experiencing a surge in dengue victims with 290 cases recorded for the first six months of this year.

Poachers await fate

THE three Vietnamese captains who pleaded guilty to a raft of poaching charges in Solomon Islands will be sentenced today in the High Court. The three and their crews were caught by police on March 26 for taking beche-de-mer and other marine resources from the Indispensable Reefs south of Rennell Island.

Flights cancel

YESTERDAY’S domestic flights in New Caledonia have been cancelled as a strike at Air Caledonie has entered its second day. The stoppage was called on Thursday without giving notice over a simmering employment dispute.

Strike looms

NEW Caledonia’s pharmacists say they will launch an unlimited strike over the government’s alleged breach of their agreement which had been worked out after more than a year’s negotiations.
