THE Consumer Council of Fiji is investigating claims by a Nadawa resident that he purchased breakfast cereal that could have been made of plastic.

Savou Vosaniyavu said he made the discovery when his son complained about cereal bought from a supermarket in Nadera, Nasinu.

“The cornflakes-like cereal that my son ate was hard even though he had poured milk over it, so he only drank the milk,” he said.

“My son told me that he didn’t like it and that was when it caught my attention.

“The cereal we bought from the supermarket was packed in an unlabelled plastic bag.”

Mr Vosaniyavu said he tasted the cereal and then decided to burn it as he was convinced that it was plastic.

“The cereal melted when I was burning it just like when we burn plastics.

“It was black in colour and I believe it was very risky to our health.”
