FIJI Amateur Boxing will hold a trial in September to select boxers for the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu in December.
Assistant coach, Oscar Nanovu said there was a lot of potential in Fiji.
“There are good boxers who have a lot of potential in amateur boxing and got lot to offer to the country,” he said.
“We are looking at taking nine boxers to Vanuatu for the Pacific Mini Games and once we have selected the boxers then we will forward the names to the FASANOC.
“Our chances of winning gold medals look good since we have what it takes to win a gold medal at such events.”
Nanovu said they would have ample time to prepare themselves.
“We will have lot of time together with the boxers to train and prepare them for the competition. In our last Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea, we did not had enough time to prepare since the boxers came together just one month away from the competition,” he added.
“There are other good countries who would be coming prepared.”
