“An important element to the infrastructure improvements of public hospitals is the active involvement of its Board of Visitors,” says Health Minister Dr Atonio Lalabalavu.

Speaking at the British High Commissioner’s fundraising event of CWM hospital on Thursday Dr Atonio said their role was similar to a Board of Governors.

“Which is to work alongside the hospital management team and the ministry for the betterment of the specific hospital,” he said.

“A good example of an active Board of Visitors was when the successful CWM clean-up day was organised last month with more than 1000 volunteers involved.

“It is pleasing to note that this initiative has snowballed around the country with communities coming forward to help clean up and even repair their local health care facilities.

“Another BOV activity is mobilising non-governmental funding and support towards funding improvement projects for their respective health care facilities.”
