BUKA, 16 SEPTEMBER 2019 (POST COURIER) – Bougainvilleans should start helping each other instead of waiting for outsiders or donors.

This was the message by Autonomous Bougainville Government Member for Tsitalato Fidelis Semoso when his people helped the people of Lautan in the Torokina district of South Bougainville raise funds for a new classroom for Lautan Primary School.

Semoso, who chipped in K2000(US$587) from his people’s developmental grant, thanked his people for reaching out to the less fortunate communities in other parts of Bougainville.

The Lautan Primary School had approached Semoso to help with their fundraising to build a new classroom.

Semoso then took it upon himself and his company and his business partners along with his people to host a corporate dinner that raised K12,800 (US$3,763).

Semoso thanked business houses and individuals who chipped in for the worthy cause, namely ABG deputy speaker and member for North Bougainville women Francisca Semoso, ABG mining department, New Household, BCM, Reasons Bar & Grill, Norak Trading, Malasang Women, Nira, Buka Management, Lautan school administration and the ABG member for Tsitalato.

“I feel happy, ratified, satisfied and proud when we help a disadvantage less developed community in remote areas.

“With good response and a heart from business houses, Lautan Primary School will now have some money to build a new classroom.

“I am very proud,” Semoso said.

Semoso said education is the key to any development or aspiration for any nation in the world and Bougainville is no exception.

“Education is the only road towards our aspiration towards independence and I am fortunate to have my company, family and people come out to assist in what little way we could.

As such, I used my people of Tsitalato’s funds to contribute towards this worthy cause,” Semoso said.

He said he felt sorry for isolated and disadvantage communities such as Lautan in Torokina and thanked the business houses who contributed, adding that without all the stakeholders support towards this fundraising, there would not be any classroom.
