THE “Born from Fire” three dimensional art exhibition is now travelling to the West for the first time.

Following on from the success of the second annual at the Grand Pacific Hotel earlier in October, the exhibition will now be at the Denarau Yacht Club this month, located in Denarau Marina.

According to a statement, Alice Hill from Hot Glass Fiji, who, along with Shane Bower from Imagination in Metal, are the founding and driving force behind Fiji’s premier sculptural exhibition and are thrilled to be able to bring the exhibition to Nadi area.

“We held our inaugural “Born from Fire” exhibition in Suva in 2017 – that went brilliantly and we were really pleased that the buzz around the exhibition this year was that it was even better.” said the glassblower.

“We heard from so many people in the West that they would have loved to come but it was a bit far, so when the opportunity arose to exhibit upstairs at the Denerau Yacht Club’s premier event space we were delighted. The gallery space above The Rhum-Ba restaurant & bar is ideal  – light, clear, airy with incredible views – and are confident that the exhibition will look fantastic there.”

Designed to showcase the amazing sculptural art created in Fiji by local artisens, “Born from Fire” features different creative techniques and unique styles of work which is inspired by and reflects the Ocean and the Forest  from Alice Hill,  Shane Bower and guest artist Sonny Sofe, who creates fabulous carved pieces from wood and balabala at his studio ‘Yanuyanu’ in Votualevu, Nadi.

Sonny’s beautiful balabala and wood pieces are inspired by the transition from ocean to land and its connection to its people and add a new dimension and textures to the exhibition.

Almost all the artwork featured is different from the October exhibition in Suva – “Born from Fire” is always evolving and changing” says Alice Hill “We have a range of new pieces as well as some of the work that was exhibited at the GPH. This theme of ‘From Ocean to Forest’ remains the same, but as many of the pieces in Suva were bought we have been hard at work in our studios and there is lots of new work being created as we speak. As every piece is unique, the exhibition will always be slightly different and evolving”

The Born from Fire theme has further inspired the innovative chefs at The Rhum-Ba to design and create a signature dinner night lead by head chef “Daz” with a menu that plays with both elements of fire & water and uses the oldset style of cooking infused with Fiji’s freshest, local flavours. The Rhum-Ba takes pride in taking traditional worldy cuisines and innovating them with local produce & flavours. Details of the menu and how to book for the signature dinner night will be released later this week to the public.

This is a wonderful opportunity to visit this free exhibition and explore the 3 dimensional artwork by local artists that will be on display, witness the spectacular creations and meet the artists in person who will be available during the exhibition from: 10am – 8pm, Friday, Dec 14 – Sunday, Dec 16, 2018 upstairs at the Denarau Yacht Club. Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
