The easing of COVID-19 restrictions by Government has resulted in a boost for businesses in Lautoka, with more people returning to work but under COVID-19 safety measures.

This, according to Lautoka Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Pyara Singh.

He said the move was positive to bringing back stability in Fiji’s economy.

“We’re definitely on the recovery road,” Mr Singh said.

“Things are improving and this is a great sign, the business community in Lautoka is progressing.”

He said businesses in Lautoka had started preparations for international borders to reopen.

“I have been told that businesses are trying to reinstate workers and so far, more than 60 per cent of people are back at work.

“It is getting better and we hope to see 90 per cent of workers back at work, once international borders open.”

He said just a small number of staff members were laid off because of the no jab, no job policy and people over 18 were urged to take the vaccine so the economy would return to normal and for people to continue practising COVID-19 safety measures.
