THE Nausori Town Council will be hosting a Beat Plastic Pollution campaign next Saturday.

The council received a major boost towards the event after receiving a cheque worth $4,150,00 as sponsorship by Pacific Energy SWP Limited earlier today in Suva.

Pacific Energy Business Manager-Lubricants Tapuaki Finauga said they decided to join hands with the council because the event reflected the one of the core functions of their business which was to maintain a safe and clean environment where they operated.

“This sponsorship should also serve as an encouragement to other businesses in Nausori to support the council in their effort to eradicate plastics and plastic bottles from the town area,” Mr Finauga said.

Nausori Town Council chief executive officer Akhtar Ali thanked the contribution by the energy company towards the initiative.

The event will include collection of plastics from Syria Park and on river banks as well with more than 100 volunteers are expected to attend the campaign.
