Hotel bookings are still very positive despite the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, says Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill.

“Booking numbers are still very strong and we are not seeing many cancellations at all, unless people are testing positive before they travel,” he said.

“Tourists still very much want to travel to Fiji, which is great.”

Mr Hill said Christmas had been very good and so far, it has been a “fantastic festive season overall”.

“We have seen a very solid December with many hotels booked out, restaurants busy and tourism experiences selling out, which has been great to see.

“I was out and about on Viti Levu and it was wonderful to see so many people outside, enjoying a break in Fiji and, largely, staying safe while doing so.”

He said as a collective, the industry and government were working together to ensure Fijians were kept safe, tourists had a safe and enjoyable experience, all while trying to keep the economy moving along.

“We, collectively, are assessing the real-time data, being guided by the science and advice of those medically qualified to give that advice.

“Thus far, the system is working well.”
