A 25-year-old man was arrested at the Nadi International Airport on Friday for allegedly claiming that his brother had “planted a bomb inside the washroom at the international departures”.

Police spokesman Wame Bautolu confirmed investigations had been carried out after the man was apprehended by border police while boarding a flight to Australia.

According to police, at 6.45am, while checking in at the International Departures, the 25-year-old construction worker said “if you could check my brother’s name in the system and if he is on the watch list because he just planted a bomb inside the washroom at the international departures” to a Customs officer.

The suspect was checking in for a flight to Sydney when he made the claims to the Customs officer.

The Customs officer then informed the suspect that the word “bomb” was prohibited at the airport.

The case was reported to border police for investigations.
