THE bodyguards didn’t intervene to stop Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama when he allegedly manhandled Opposition MP Pio Tikoduadua outside Parliament on August 9.

This was highlighted by Mr Tikoduadua when he was questioned by the Parliamentary Privileges Committee on September 3.

When committee member and Opposition MP Mosese Bulitavu questioned Mr Tikoduadua whether he knew the bodyguards, Mr Tikoduadua responded: “Yes, very well”.

Mr Tikoduadua said the bodyguards didn’t do anything to stop Mr Bainimarama.

“I weigh 110 kilograms and I weigh more than Prime Minister. I am actually very heavy and I am tall,” he said.

“He (Mr Bainimarama) shoved me back with such force that I said he broke my glasses. But reaction, I only spoke to him.”

Mr Tikoduadua said he didn’t retaliate because it was the responsibility of the bodyguards to protect the Prime Minister.
