The shocking discovery of a woman’s body found floating off Lomolomo Beach is being investigated by police as an alleged murder.

“Investigators are yet to identify the victim, however, the victim has a tattoo with the words ‘Renal’ on her right chest and left wrist,” said police spokesperson Ana Naisoro.

“She also has a tattoo of a rose on her left arm and the tattoo of a butterfly on her right leg.”

Nazilesh Chand, a farmer from Sabeto, Nadi, who chanced upon the body, claimed she had a steel rope “similar to that used for hanging clothes” tightly wound around her neck.

He said the last thing he expected to chance upon while taking his horse through its paces at the beach was a dead body.

Mr Chand said he was at the beach with his family for a Sunday picnic and was training his horse for an upcoming race when he made the gruesome discovery.

“It was around 10.30am when I saw someone floating at the beach while I was on horseback,” he said.

Mr Chand said he immediately drove to the Lomolomo Police Station and raised the alarm.

“I was shocked as I had never seen something like that ever before.

“When I came back to the site with the police and upon closer inspection, it appeared the woman was of Indian descent.”

He claimed a steel rope similar to that used for hanging clothes was tightly wound around the woman’s neck.

“She looked to be in her late 30s.”
