The discovery of a body near a culvert at the Toga bridge in Rewa has left nearby villagers in shock.

Muana villager Toni Vereadali said it was shocking and disturbing to encounter an incident as such.

He said he was on his way to work when he discovered the body.

Mr Vereadali said it was clear to him that the body of the man was not a familiar face in the area.

“It was low tide when I discovered his body. His legs were in the water and his head on the surface of the cement,” he said.

“I couldn’t identify him because his head was facing down and I firmly believe that he is not from around the area.”

Another man, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said his workmates were astounded when they came across the body yesterday morning.

“It’s really scary that this has happened and I just hope justice prevails,” he said.

Police spokesman Wame Bautolu confirmed the body was found near a culvert close to the Toga bridge in Rewa.

He said police would carry out a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
