FORMER national sevens rep Sireli Bobo says the Fiji under-18 men’s rugby team received great exposure during the Oceania U18 7s Championship in Australia. Fiji finished third in the competition after defeating Tonga 21-12 in the third and fourth place playoffs. Bobo said it was good achievement despite the lack of preparation time.

“It was a good exposure for our players,” he said. “They played against some U18 from bigger rugby countries like Australia and New Zealand. “For me I am just grateful and thankful to the players for getting as far as they could with the little preparation time they had.”

Fiji lost to Australia 26-6 and Samoa 19-12 during the round robin stage. The side defeated Cook Islands 14-7, Tonga 19-0 and the Solomon Islands 33-19. Bobo said the potential in the team was high.

The potential in terms of talent is there,” he said. “Fiji has an abundant of talents out there. Given time these group of players and many others out there can take Fiji up to the top in the world.”
