Staff members of the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) planted 1100 trees in Sigatoka recently as part of their corporate social responsibility.

More than 100 staff members and family members from Suva, Nausori, Sigatoka, Rakiraki, Korovou, Nadi, Lautoka and Ba gathered in Cuvu, Nadroga to plant the teak, vesi, maqo, moli and vutu trees on the hills of Hanahana Village.

“In support of the Government’s ’30 million Trees in 15 Years’ (30MT15Y) initiative, TLTB recognises the important services that the forest resources provide,” states a TLTB social media release.

“It is imperative that we understand nature and the effects of climate change when growing trees. Losses are expected and restoring losses is part of the strategy to maintain our target of growing 30 million trees in 15 years.”

“TLTB is working closely with the Ministry of Forestry, provincial offices and landowners around the country in support of this government initiative.”

A similar tree planting initiative took place on Vanua Levu where more than 350 tamarin, sickle and kavika trees were planted on Vorovoro Island belonging to mataqali Davetalevu in Mali, Macuata.
