REIGNING champion Lautoka sent out a stern warning to other teams in the Vodafone Premier League competition when it thumped Tavua 6-0 in the season opener at Churchill Park yesterday.

After a slow start in the first spell, the Sugar City boys shifted to top gear in the second half scoring six unanswered goals.

Star striker Samuela Drudru stole the show scoring hat-trick of goals and played a hand in two other goals to help his side secure a convincing win. Drudru was at the top of his game and combined well with evergreen Osea Vakatalesau and Dave Radregai to produce for his team.

Lautoka’s other goals were scored each by super sub Sairusi Nalubu, Radregai and Kolinio Sivoki – with a penalty.

The defending champion also missed out several scoring opportunities which could have increased their scores.

Tavua played well in the first spell but the experience, fitness level and combination of the Lautoka boys tore them apart.

Lautoka head coach Kamal Swamy said it took the players more than 40 minutes to find their rhythm and applauded the challenge made by the young Tavua team.
