THE Fiji Roads Authority is presently experimenting the alternative of building a special lane for buses on the Kings Road in Suva.

This lane, FRA chief executive officer Jonathan Moore said that lane would be called the “Blue Lane” that periodically would be a bus lane, which meant the lane would be only used by omni buses and mini buses. Mr Moore said this special lane will be on trial for six months.

Addressing members of the Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) at their annual convention at the Novotel in Lami this afternoon, Mr Moore said this was a solution the FRA and the Government was introducing to address congestions on Fiji roads.

“It’ll work with enforcement, we need to ensure enforcers are there,” Mr Moore said.

He said vehicles that used the blue lane to either do loading, offloading, dropping passengers, etcetera, should be photographed and penalized.

Fiji’s Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had also confirmed earlier today the move to introduce bus lanes.
