FIJIANS’ support for the national 7s team this weekend at the New Zealand Sevens at Hamilton is expected to be better and bigger than the past three years.
Not only are Fijians living in New Zealand meeting at the FMG Waikato Stadium to back the Gareth Baber-coached Fijians, the atmosphere is expected to have some Fijian touch in the setting up of a Fijian village and food stalls selling foods similar to events at home.
“There will be food stalls where those coming to watch the games can buy food, there will be Fijian foods which included BBQ and lovo, a lot of yaqona had been prepared and there is going to be a mixture of Pacific islanders getting together to cheer the Fiji 7s team,” Fijian Hamilton Society president Ilaitia Tuwere said.
“The support from people is expected to be more and bigger than past years. It is going to be exciting because this is where we meet annually.
“There will be food, entertainment and a Fijian place where we can all meet. We are expected because we will be all supporting out team.
“There is even a vernacular radio program on Friday night where messages and programs dedicated to the team and the tournament to rally for support for our boys. So, come and join, and enjoy the Fijians atmosphere at the Hamilton tournament.”
The Fijians village will be behind the FMG Waikato stadium.
