NOT being accepted back into society is likely another contributing factor to the increase in the rate of recidivism.
Officiating at the quarterly commissioner’s parade in Naboro on Friday afternoon, Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Lt-Col Ifereimi Vasu said data from last year’s first quarter to this year, had shown an increase in the number of recidivists.
Speaking in the iTaukei language, Lt-Col Vasu told his officers they had a mammoth task ahead of them in terms of decreasing the number of recidivists.
Lt-Col Vasu said from the 12 recidivists in last year’s first quarter, this year had shown an increase of five totalling up to 17 in the first quarter this year.
