Bid to attract tourists

HAVING recognised the potential the Indian tourism market can generate, Tourism Fiji has enlisted Bollywood actress Ileana D’Cruz as their brand ambassador.

D’Cruz and Tourism Fiji had a successful collaboration last year after the actress arrived in Fiji and documented her stay in the country.

Through this engagement, Tourism Fiji aims to showcase more unique offerings in Fiji to potential travellers from India.

D’Cruz is expected to travel to Fiji soon and highlight these offerings through her social media channels, including her 2.49 million Twitter followers, and other Indian media outlets. According to Tourism Fiji, India remained a strategic emerging market for Fiji as the country had received steady growth in Indian tourist arrivals over the past five years.

Tourism Minister Faiyaz Koya said Fiji and India shared an age old connection as over 40 per cent of Fiji’s population were of Indian origin.

“We celebrate Indian festivals such as Diwali and Ganesh Chaturthi in Fiji too and now tourism is fast becoming a key point of connection for both countries,” he said.

“With Ileana D’Cruz as our brand ambassador, we hope to get more Indians to come and experience the diverse and refreshing culture of our island country.”

D’Cruz said she was happy to be associated with a beautiful country like Fiji.

“The warmth, hospitality, and love the Fijian people have shown me make me feel like I’m home,” she said.

“I cannot wait to go back and explore more of this lovely paradise.”

She is expected to visit Fiji next month.
