THE low turnout of oral submissions at the public consultation on the Code of Conduct Bill 33 held in the North this week means a better communication outreach is needed for the public.

Standing Committee on Justice Law and Human Rights chairman Alvick Maharaj said despite using all media outlets and social media to inform the public about the consultation,  the public turnout had been low in Labasa and Savusavu.

“We received a good number of written submissions but not many oral submissions and we need to look at other alternatives of informing the public, ” Mr Maharaj said.

“We can use billboards in villages and town areas to inform the public as well. ”

The committee ended their consultation in the North yesterday afternoon.
