The best available players have been selected to represent the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team for the back to back World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai.

Wholesale changes have been made to the team following the transition of majority of the Fiji 7s Tokyo Olympic Games gold medallist to the 15s code.

Interim Fijian 7s head coach Saiasi Fuli said they blended the program together with the previous management.

Fuli said the players were doing their individual training before sporting restrictions were lifted in the country in October.

“We had five weeks together, doing the daily training environment program (DTE) and camps,” he said.

“So far they are in very good shape and well-conditioned.

The good measure was the final Fiji Rugby Super Seven Series recently in Suva.

“This is the best available players that we have selected based on form and based on merit.

I know that there are plenty of new players, but they have played well for their respective clubs and they deserve to don the Fiji jumper.”

Fiji is grouped with Australia, France and Canada for the first tournament in Dubai this weekend.

Fuli said they were in a tough pool.

“This is always the case in the series so we have to map out our plan,” he said.

“We have to align to our goal which is to start well in Dubai and finish strong.

“It’s always tough to play in back to back tournaments.

This is just the starting of the new season and there are three tough teams in our pool.

We are doing our own research and we are doing our own video analysis regarding the opposition.

“We have to also try to balance our combination of how we can go in Dubai and play well to start the season strongly.”
