FIJI Beach Volleyball Federation is working on a fresh start towards the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.

The federation has appointed new coaches for the men and women’s teams.

Fitness tests have also been conducted to gauge players who are vying for a spot in the final team.

FBVF director Josh Tulele said training had started to give ample time to prepare.

“We have started early to give time for everybody who is not on the proper fitness level,” Tulele said.

“We want to give a fair chance to everybody to compete for a spot in the final team.”

The federation has set out weekly training sessions and competitions to help in the preparation.

“We have planned a series of fitness tests and have tournaments that will help in our preparations. We plan to finish that by the end of next April.” Tulele said experienced players would be selected based on their commitment towards the training sessions.

“We have a big group of experienced players who are competitive. It comes down to everyone’s commitment and hard work to get them in the squad.”

The new national women’s team coach is former South Pacific Games gold medallist Mereula Mea and the men’s coach is former national captain, Apenisa Saukuru.
