Be aware and trained, exporters urged

BUSINESSES need to understand the international market requirements when it comes to exporting goods and services.
Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation CEO Mereia Volavola said this included understanding issues such as labelling, packaging, phytosanitary and sanitary standards, and certification.
“Intending exporters need to be aware and trained on these aspects. Trade agreements in place will only be effective when these are addressed and appropriate support is provided to SMEs,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Development Bank recently launched its small and medium enterprises awards to recognise the contribution of this sector to the economy. The awards night is scheduled for November 27 in Suva.
