Battle for Hill
7 April, 2018, 12:00 am
FIJI’S top amateur boxer Winston Hill will take on world champion Lyndel Marcellin of St Lucia in the men’s 69 kilograms category at the Oxenford Studios in Gold Coast, Australia.
Marcellin had competed in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and the world championships in Azerbaijan in 2011 and Kerzikstan in 2013.
Fiji amateur boxing coach Napoleon Taumoepeau said Hill was looking forward to the fight.
“Everything went as planned, the boys are physically ready for competition and it will show,” Taumoepeau said.
“Mentally, now with experience on his side, Winston is focused and ready and that has been the problem in the past but I believe he has overcome this issue, when he is focused — I believe he can beat anybody.
“Jone is very quiet but I have been working with him for some years now, he does all of his talking in the ring.”
Fiji’s upcoming talented boxer Jone Koroilagilagi Davule lost his fight against Richard Colin of Mauritius on Thursday.
“This is world-class boxing — Jone faced two times Olympian and two times Commonwealth Games Richard Colin of Mauritius,” he said.
“For Jone, he is still under development but is very focused and capable of a win, although there is an experience gap I believe he will win. For Winston, this is his time, I expect nothing less than a win.”
The fight will take place at 3.47pm (Fiji time).
