Barracudas name team to Hong Kong 10s

SAMURAI Barracudas Rugby Club has released the names of players to play in the Hong Kong Football Club 10s tournament on April 4-5.

Team manager Sailosi Naiteqe said this year marked the 10th anniversary of the Samurai Fijian Barracudas and former national 7s rep, Nasoni Roko would coach and lead the team.

“The last time we played in Hong Kong was in 2013,” Naiteqe said.

“That time we actually had a team that had all Fijian players and we reached the final. In 2013, we played against HSBC Penguins in the final where Pio Tuwai was the captain. We had Marika Vunibaka, Saula Rabaka, Iliesa Keresoni, Nasoni Roko, David Batiratu.

“This year we recruited Tabadamu and Police players. Roko will coach and play.

“I will help him from the sideline. I am nurturing players to take up coaching job like my namesake who is coaching the Wardens team and we have Jo Bola who is coaching in Malaysia.

“We have Asaeli coaching the Waimanu and Roko with Tabadamu. They were my players from the grassroots level.”

For Roko, 38, who played for the defending Fijian Bitter Marist 7s champions Tabadamu, is ranked as one of the World Rugby Sevens Series’ top tryscorers.

The Barracudas tops Pool D which features Kir Club Pyrenees, Taikoo Place Scottish Exiles and Sedbergh School OB.
