IT’S not an easy task to prepare children for school.

As the new academic year starts today, some parents had to go the extra yard to ensure their children were well prepared for school.

But for a group of youths of Waigasa in Lami, they took it upon themselves to help their parents prepare for school by going around entertaining people.

With their ages ranging from eight to 28 years old, they are members of the Qiri Kava Squad who call themselves the Washington Tin Band.

The 18-member band, with only five working, the remaining 13 are all students attending primary, secondary and tertiary schools mainly in the Central Division.

“We have been doing this for three years now and the money we receive, we share among ourselves and we take this back home. For most of us who are still in school, we use the money to help buy our school stuff,” said Apisai Yatevate, the band conductor.
