THE Digicel Ba Riverside Carnival was like no other.
This was echoed by families who thronged to participate in the week-long festival.
The Ba people, renowned for their passionate support for soccer, displayed equal fervour for the Ba Town Council’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
From the opening ceremonies through to when past mayors and council staff members were honoured for their contribution to Ba and even the flotilla of outstanding floats that were paraded through the town on Saturday, the fete to celebrate 75 years of the municipality exceeded all expectations.
Ba special administrator Praveen Bala said he owed the success of the event to the people of Ba.
“They created the atmosphere by coming out in huge numbers,” he said.
Mr Bala also acknowledged the sponsors and stallholders for their contribution to a very successful fete.
The winner of the Miss Digicel Ba Riverside crown, 19-year-old Makereta Dugu, said she was proud and privileged to be an ambassador of Ba.
“I want the whole world to know that Ba represents everything that Fiji is renowned for,” the Xavier College student shared.
“I will continue to advocate about the importance of culture and tradition because this is something that brings thousands of people to Fiji every year.”
