Bainimarama, Qiliho trial starts

QUESTIONABLE bonus payments at the University of the South Pacific was discussed at length on day one of the trial of former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama and suspended police commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho in the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
USP’s director assurance and compliance Dulari Doris Traill said after she established a whistleblower policy in 2019, a number of staff came forward and said they “had issues but were scared because of fear of victimisation”.
Mr Bainimarama is charged with one count of attempt to pervert the course of justice while Mr Qiliho is charged with a count of abuse of office.
